Now Listening: Sad Wings of Destiny by Judas Priest (music.apple.com) šµš§
I’ve started trying out NotePlan this week.
I’ve long(!) kept “daily notes” for work, with some non-daily, single subject-based work notes in the mix. I’ve primarily used Notational Velocity/nvAlt for this, with Markdown files synched via Dropbox underneath (I’m a believer in plain text).
Since I’ve also been considering changing away from OmniFocus (again, ha), NotePlan’s integration with Reminders is another point of interest for me.
I’ll probably revisit aspects of Bullet Journaling (albeit digital), Zettelkasten, personal Wiki (will also probably look at Obsidian.md soon), and other topics as part of this evaluation, too.
So far, so good, although I feel some anxiety around not having new notes going into my “old and trusted system” right now. š
I’m also looking at how I might be able to edit the underlying files directly (outside of NotePlan) on mobile, or with automation.
I am decidedly a ācondiment person.ā Love me some condiments! And sauces and spreads. And dips.
My family, less so.
(More for me!)
Getting a shingles inoculation today, and wondering how many more times in my life will I need to fill out essentially the same medical information forms?
I have been so ready for so long to have an Apple Pay-esque submission experience for that info.
I bought a CD. Why? The band is not available in Apple Music. So, I try to import it to Music/iTunes.
But nothing is happening. Itās like the CD is not there.
And Appleās help ā Big Sur specific helpā is factually wrong.
Troubleshooting the CD drive now, but my hunch currently is that this is Appleās fault. ā¹ļø
Iām a little surprised to find that my āa minute or two of Duolingo every dayā apparently landed me enough XP to be in the top 2% of users in 2020. š¤Ø
Who wants to friend me in the app and defeat me in 2021?
I just deleted a reply that was totally well-intentioned but that I feared might be misunderstood at 280 characters. š
Apple used to tout how much it loved music.
Well, among many other examples of this no longer being the case: itās nearly 2021 and I still canāt create a smart playlist on my iPhone using Appleās first-party app.
Smart playlists were introduced in iTunes 3 in 2002… How much more powerful is my iPhone today than Macs were in 2002?
(Or, can I do this, and Iām just overlooking how ā and complaining needlessly as a result? š)
If I were on my deathbed right now, Iād want a button I could press (or, rather, release) as I pass that would play the Wilhelm Scream.

Today would have been Bruce Leeās birthday (1940) and Jimi Hendrixās birthday (1942).
I think that qualifies as making this an auspicious day for birthdays, at least in 20th century terms.
Then I saw that it is also Steve Bannonās birthday (1953), and so I may have to rescind my consideration for auspiciousness.
I’ve been using Panic’s Nova for Ruby and JS work on a client project. Now, as I move back to doing Flutter tasks for it, I’m wishing there were Flutter/Dart extensions for Nova. Visual Studio Code is great, and the Flutter support is slick, but I’m missing Nova. I hope someone implements support for it soon.
Also: maybe I should revisit Onivim 2ās support for vscode’s extensionsā¦?
And: I wonder how hard/time-consuming it would be to make an extension for Nova myself…?

What does it mean when UPS says my package was loaded on a truck and marked “out for deliveryā early on this Saturday morning, yet the delivery estimate āwhile it did move back up from Tuesdayā continues to target late afternoon on Monday? It’ll sit on a truck all weekend??
I was getting dangerously low on SSD space. DaisyDisk found lots of space that iMazing had hanging around for what seems like no good reason, plus that TimeMachine had recent snapshots despite being disabled.
Cleaning those out bought me back more than 700GB of combined free space!
My Apple Watch / Activity challenge for November is based on the number of 15-minute+ workouts I do.
I did one today, but it refuses to sync to my iPhone.
Thatās not exactly motivational. š
Was nicely surprised to notice today that I’ve got the “Arctic Code Vault Contributorā highlight on my GitHub profile. Not sure when that showed up.
Is there a way to see the full list of qualifying repos Iāve contributed to? The hover window lists three and says āand more!ā
I’m accidentally becoming more deft at passing flags to run things on non-default ports this week. Currently running two React web apps, Serverless lambdas, a Rails app, and two PostgreSQL databases at the same time. Not to mention a proxy tool. And, this seemed easier than ramping up on Docker Compose.š
I’m considering changing my āOfficialā¢ā job title (as used for online registration forms) from Senior Keyboard Operator to Junior Meeting Attendee. š¤
My wife got me a guitar for our anniversary. Sheās awesome! And itās niiice… š¤¤ Itās an Ernie Ball Music Man BFR Axis Super Sport Baritone, with a āstarry nightā finish ā my first baritone.
I went to eye doctor for an exam and new glasses.
Took my prescription sunglasses with me in preparation for the inevitable pupil dilation.
While there, I realize that I’ve misplaced my sunglasses. (I hate losing things.)
So, I also get new sunglasses (visualize the money leaving my wallet here).
Return home to find that my old sunglasses case apparently fell out of my hoodie pocket when I got in the car (excitementā¦) and then were subsequently run over (…dashed). š„
